Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNO): Millions of people across India including Jammu and Kashmir remained indoors in wake of the lock down call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prevent the deadly Coronavirus from spreading.
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Jammu and Kashmir district remained sealed today for the seventh straight day with authorities imposing strict curbs under section 144 of CrPc. Besides, the 21-day lockdown from today begun across India and all the roads wore deserted look while the air traffic remained suspended too with government of India suspending the domestic flights.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed on roads across Jammu and Kashmir to enforce the restrictions imposed by the government. Strict restriction were put in place across Jammu and Kashmir while many of the people especially businessmen were booked by the authorities for violating the government orders.
In Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, at least 14 persons have been arrested by the police and have also seized two vehicles for defying the restriction orders over COVID-19.
Ganderbal Police have arrested four shopkeepers who were found violating the Government orders issued under section 144 CrPC in two separate actions. “Among them two shopkeepers were arrested by PS Safapora and two were arrested by PS Kangan,” officials said.
Cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at concerned police stations and initiated investigation. Handwara Police in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have arrested ten persons for defying prohibitory orders and seized two vehicles in separate actions. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at concerned police stations and investigation taken up, officials said.
In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, license of a Fair Price shop in Devsar was suspended after he was found violating the government norms.
In Pulwama district, at least four business units were sealed by the authorities for violating the government orders, officials said, adding that four business units in Lassipora area of the district were found violating the orders and have been booked by the authorities.
Besides Valley, the ten districts of Jammu province also remained under strict curbs.
As per reports, all the districts of Jammu province especially the urban areas, remained under strict curbs today. “Strict restriction on movement of all kinds of vehicles expect those of officials from emergency services were put in place whereas people going for purchase of essential commodities from permitted business establishments were only allowed to move." the officials said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police in its efforts to ensure complete lockdown across the Union Territory for safety of people has registered 218 FIR against norm violators.
The FIRs has been registered for defying the orders of lockdown issued by the government aimed to stop or break down the chain of deadly COVID-19, police said in a statement issued here.
In Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Awantipora, Districts of South Kashmr Police has registered 28 FIRs against persons for violating the orders. In central Kashmir's Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal Districts police has registered 14 FIRs against such persons. In North Kashmir's Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Bandipora district, 27 FIR has been registered against persons for violating the lockdown orders.
In Jammu Samba Kathua range police has registered 50 FIRs against the persons for violating the orders and In Udhampur Reasi range 13 FIRs has been registered against the lockdown violators. Similarly, 21 FIRs has been registered against the persons for violating the orders in Doda Kishtwar Ramban Range.
